I knew Apple would come out with their own slate computer at the event yesterday. However, I was really hyped up for something different, something new, something that would blow my mind. Apple's iPad So I log on this morning to take a look at the play by play of the event from PC World’s live blog from Jonathan Seff, Dan Moren, and Jason Snell. I scroll down the page to where I left off yesterday and find that they are still talking about the iPad. I search for something else. Another new product maybe? Nope. Nothing. That’s it. I was really disappointed.

Then I look up the image of the Apple iPad and scrutinize it. It looks like a big iPhone. I thought, What’s the big deal? I sit back and look at my desk. One of the bloggers had mentioned a docking station so you could use a real keyboard. Hmmm…

There is one thing lacking in my apartment and that is space. With two little girls space is always lacking. I sit between two desks: one for my computer and one for writing on. On my computer desk (which is quite large with two small drawers and one large, as well as three shelves) there seems to be plenty of room for a sole freelance writer working from home. However, the desktop is covered with my crap for my computer: my PC tower, a power surge protector, my old school monitor with the large back, my external hard drive, a big keyboard, and space for my mouse. All of this takes up the entire top of my computer desk, which is why I have another one just for writing on - no electronics. Then I picture the Apple iPad on my desk. All the space I would save! It would be glorious. And at only $499? Plus, as a total book geek the new iBook feature really impresses me. I could take it in bed to read and save even more space from my three bookcases around the house. I could take it with me to doctor’s appointments and picking up the kids to write a new story or check my email. With the built in Wi-Fi there is really no limits.

My point is I took another good look at Apple’s iPad and I am quite impressed. If I really want to get used to a whole new system I just might get one.
