Fun Android Apps to Spookify your Halloween

By Lito Carasig - Saturday, October 29, 2011

At the expense of sounding cliché but it’s that time of year again when the wind begins to get a bit chilly, the leaves start to fall and your favourite ghouls and goblins haunt the streets because Halloween is just a couple of sleeps away.

To spice things up, I’ve gathered together some fun Android apps for your phone or tablets especially made for Halloween.  You will have tons of fun with these, even if you just install them for the kids to tinker with so you can have some peace for a change.

For starters, greet your friends the hi tech way by sending them Halloween eCards for free.  It’s a great way of remembering your friends and loved ones and showing off how tech savvy you are at the same time.

Of course Halloween won’t be complete without some scary wallpapers for your device.  Halloween Live Wallpapers allows you to put those eerie and spooky Halloween-themed backgrounds on any Android enabled devices, making them that much creepier. Watch as pumpkins, cat and bats all tumble around your screen trying to get away from your fingers as you touch them. Images are bright and really bring the season of scaring to your phone or tablet.

Ever since Plant Vs. Zombies came out, there have been a steady slew of games coming out with the same strategy and game play.  Pumpkins Vs. Monsters, as you might have guessed, is in this same genre where you have to flick pumpkins to the incoming horde of monster in order to kill them. But Pumpkin Vs. Monsters offer a puzzle-solving twist to the already great game play making it more addictive!

If throwing pumpkins at monsters is not your idea of fun then perhaps you’d enjoy Elf City Halloween where you build, maintain and control your own Elf City! Build your city using over 80 types of building including homes, public building, decorations and markets.  You can also send gift to your friends and get bonuses when your city gets praised. If you like micro-management and control, then this game is definitely for you.

Now I chose this last one for when everything is already quiet and you are sending the kids to bed. Although this one isn’t a free book, I’ve included it here because it is quite beautiful both in content and images. The Legend of Spookly: The Square Pumpkin tells the story of Spookly who was different from the rest because he was a square pumpkin.  It’s a story of self-acceptance and tolerance that would be a great read for the kids not only for Halloween but also for the rest of the year.

Just download the apps from the Android Market and you’ll be all set for a fun and spooky Halloween. Found something interesting for Halloween? Do drop us a comment and let the whole world know what you’ve found.
